European and Canadian French: Matt Goldstein, B.A.

Matt fell in love with French thirty years ago during a college trip to France. Many return visits to different regions over the years have deepened his appreciation for the richness and diversity of French as it is spoken throughout the country.

In 2006, while living in Montreal and studying translation at McGill University, Matt immersed himself in Canadian French and Québécois culture. Today, he feels equally at home with French from either side of the Atlantic. He has shared his love of the language as a teacher and tutor for children and adults for nearly 20 years.

Matt currently teaches English in the Continuing and Professional Studies program at the City College of New York (CCNY). He also teaches Business English remotely to professionals in the Czech Republic who want to strengthen their language and communication skills for the global workplace.

In addition to teaching, Matt works as a French-to-English translator for clients throughout la francophonie, including Europe, the Caribbean, and French-speaking West Africa.

Outside the classroom, Matt loves to travel, whether abroad or simply across New York City, exploring its extraordinary mix of cultures, music, languages, and food. He looks forward to being part of his students’ language journeys at Speak! Language Center.
