French and German: Caroline Philipps

Caroline was raised in a bilingual German- and French-speaking family and grew up traveling frequently to France and Belgium. These early immersion experiences gave her not only a natural environment for language learning, but also a deep appreciation for the cultures behind the languages. She later learned English in school and spent several years living in London, where full immersion strengthened her fluency and completed her trilingual skill set.

After relocating from London to Washington, DC, Caroline worked at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), training U.S. government personnel in French and German. There, she helped students work toward an ambitious goal: developing professional language proficiency in just nine months through intensive one-on-one instruction, independent study, and focused vocabulary development.

Drawing on both her personal experience as a multilingual learner and her professional training, Caroline incorporates immersion techniques into her teaching and curriculum. She brings enthusiasm, cultural insight, and a practical, personalized approach to helping students build confidence and communicate effectively in a new language.
