Will’S STORY

How a middle school student struggling with Spanish blossomed into a successful high school Spanish student with help from his Speak! tutor, Theresa

What are your future goals with Spanish and do you wish to learn other languages?

“I want to keep working with Theresa until I graduate, by which time I hope to be proficient. Recently I have been doing some Portuguese on Duolingo, and I would also like to learn German someday.”

Will, tell us why you picked Spanish as your main language of study in school?

Spanish was the only language offered at the middle school I attended.

What initially  motivated you to start improving your Spanish with Speak! and Theresa a few years ago? 

I was having trouble in class and needed assistance. That’s all there is to it, really.

How do you feel your Spanish has improved since you started? 

Theresa has really helped me improve overall. I would have done much worse in Spanish class if not for her. Specifically, she’s helped me with conversations and reading in the Spanish language. 

How has the pandemic affected your Spanish lessons?

I see Theresa on Zoom now instead of in-person, and there wasn’t much new content from class to cover after school was cancelled, but otherwise my lessons were unaffected.
